Slowing Down & Being Quiet…Spiritual Retreat

I don’t know about you, but my life seems to rarely slow down.  So I decided to do something about it a few weeks ago.  The summer was coming to an end and I realized that I was tired and hadn’t really taken the opportunity to rest.  Lots of good stuff has been happening for us this summer.  But in the middle of all that stuff sometimes it can be hard to stop the hands of time and just rest.

A couple of my friends kind of chuckled when I explained I was going on a spiritual retreat.  No cell phone service, no internet, no one to talk to but me & God.  They looked at me like, “what’s the big deal.”  But I realized that it is hard to understand the need for undisturbed & quiet time if you are a single adult.  After 9 years of marriage & 7 years of boys, quiet isn’t something that usually describes our house.

I also sensed that God was calling me to spend some intentional time in prayer and study and retreat. Getting away from the blur of life and spending some intentional uninterrupted time with Him.  It was incredible.  I’ll have to share some of the things I learned in a later post.  For now I’ll just share a few pics I took on my rinky dink MacBook camera.  Consider taking some time to intentionally spend in solitude.  Even if it’s just leaving work a couple hours early on a Friday and going for a long walk in the park.  Or if you have the time, give the folks down at St. Mary’s at Sewanee a call (  The Hermitage is $50 a night and a great place to be alone with God!
